On 31 July 2019 2K games, American video game publisher and publisher of the popular basketball video game series NBA 2K, announced that Zion Williamson, the first overall selection in the 2019 NBA Draft, has signed a multi-year partnership deal with NBA 2K. This partnership agreement will include Williamson’s integration into many of the game’s initiatives, brand creative, consumer events and social activations. Williamson is the highest-rated rookie in NBA 2K since 2011 and will make his video game debut in NBA 2K20.
Williamson will be the latest NBA superstar to represent 2K over the past few decades, joining a roster of legends such as Shaquille O’Neal, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, LeBron James and NBA 2K20 cover stars Dwyane Wade and Anthony Davis. “Zion represents the best of the NBA’s up and coming talent and we are excited to welcome him to Team 2K. For more than 20 years, NBA 2K has identified and worked with the best basketball talent in the world. It’s been incredible to witness what Zion can do on the court and we’re excited to grow with him throughout his career,” said Jason Argent, Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations at NBA 2K.
“I’m excited to officially join Team 2K and be a part of this global phenomenon, where people around the world can play [as] me. I’m ready to put my imprint on basketball culture and be a part of the team that represents what’s next in the sport,” Williamson commented on the partnership deal.
Fans of basketball and the NBA 2K video game series will be able to play as their favourite teams and players in the latest iteration of the annual game franchise when NBA 2K20 launches worldwide on 6 September 2019.
