Telecoms subscribers in Nigeria registered over 13,880 abuses against the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in quarter one, although complaints about poor services dropped during the period. According to a report by the Nigerian Telecoms Consumer Complaints (NCC), Q1 2018, the number of complaints against telecommunication operators decreased by 3,367 from 17, 247 in Q4 2017 to 13, 880 in Q1, 2018.

Aremu Babajide, chairman of the Technical Committee at the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), stated that service providers are working to ensure subscribers get the best. He said that subscribers are in for the best this season as some regulations to enhance service delivery, including National Roaming and Active Infrastructure sharing policies, would soon be introduced.

The report further showed that MTN, the largest operator in terms of market share and subscription base in Nigeria, received the most complaints with 6,120 (44%). Airtel came second, with 3,143 complaints (23%), and Globacom was third with 2,885 (21%). 9Mobile got 1,705 complaints, representing 12 percent.

Billing issues accounted for 7,046 or 51 percent of complaints, followed by VAS issues with 1,897 (14 percent), SMS issues at 1,104 (8%) and call set-up challenges at 1,189 (9%). The NCC report also revealed that as of 31 March about 9.3 million telecom service users had activated the Do-Not-Disturb code on a full or partial basis.
