Social media reacts to death of Taxify driver after his vehicle was torched.

South African police are investigating a murder case after a body of a Taxify driver was discovered in a boot of a burnt Chevrolet Aveo in Pretoria, South Africa on Thursday, 01 March 2018.

According to a Police spokesperson, the motive and cause behind the incident are still unknown.

According to a report by Eyewitness News, Taxify has identified the driver as Siyabonga Ngcobo.Taxify has launched its own investigation to assist the police to uncover the facts around the murder of Ngcobo.

Police are appealing to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to contact the local police station or send an anonymous tip-off to Crime Stop.

In July 2017, Taxify and Uber drivers launched a petition calling on the Minister of Police to intervene and stop ongoing violent attacks on their drivers. This was after an Uber driver was petrol bombed in Pretoria.

In the same year, an Uber driver sustained serious chemical burns after he was assaulted.
