IT News Africa recently spoke to Peter Goulding, Global Public Safety Expert, Enterprise Business Group, Huawei Technologies who unpacked the importance of establishing mission-critical communications in Africa at the Technology Innovation Conference held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Goulding is a Global Public Safety Expert at Huawei on the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to enable governments, emergency services, city authorities and other public safety organisations to prevent, detect, respond and recover quickly and effectively from threats to public safety. He is a well sought after speaker internationally, and is well regarded in evangelising how mission-critical technology capabilities can be utilised to make communities and cities safe and secure.
With his extensive frontline policing experience and deep ICT knowledge in mission-critical communications and command & control systems; Goulding is an expert to assist public safety and security agencies at both operational and ICT levels. He helps governments and agencies to better understand their future challenges, trends, requirements and best practices.
Prior to joining Huawei for this pioneer global public safety expert position, Goulding spent 35 years in the Metropolitan Police Service, London, UK and was a regional lead in public safety with a major global mission-critical communications supplier, with similar roles as in Huawei.
Within Huawei, Goulding advises the product and solution teams to develop state-of-the-art ICT solutions for public safety and security agencies. Goulding is always on the lookout for good solution partners and system integrators to work with Huawei’s ICT offering, to continue our aim of building a business-driven ecosystem, to meet the needs of customers and ensure efficient implementation and delivery of these effective end-to-end solutions.
Goulding spoke to IT News Africa about what exactly mission-critical communication is, why it is so important, how it will be integrated into smart cities projects and the barriers to implementing these technologies in Africa.
