Logistics technology firm, Sendy plans East African expansion.

Sendy, a logistics firm backed by Safaricom, has announced plans to expand into East Africa by the end of 2018. The on-demand logistics firm allows customers to order courier services over their mobile phones. The company offers customers a wide choice of types and sizes of vehicles, ranging from motorcycles to trucks.

The app is live in Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa and Eldoret. Sendy also plans to launch in other Kenyan towns is The company's operations serve close to 50,000 customers and 4000 businesses.

Meshack Alloys, CEO of Sendy, said, “When we started Sendy in 2014 we saw the opportunity to fill a gap in the logistic services sector in Nairobi. Ever since, we have been able to provide affordable and high-quality services through our Driver partners, and expand our client base across sectors and leading corporates. With the support of DOB Equity and CFAO we look forward to sustaining our high growth and outstanding services to our current and new clients over the coming years.”

Sendy recently received $2 million in equity investment from Dutch impact fund DOB Equity and CFAO Group, a multinational firm that is a fully owned subsidiary of Toyota Tsusho Corporation in October 2017.

According to a statement released by the DOB Equity the new funds will enable Sendy to increase their platforms’ service offering. This includes adding more vehicles to their platform, increasing their coverage area, expanding the sales and technology team, and preparing for future expansion into neighbouring countries in East Africa.
