Kenya: Boda Boda Safety Association to launch bike hailing app.
Boda Boda Safety Association of Kenya has announced that it will, at the end of January 2018, launch a new app called Juu boda that will connect riders to customers. The app will allow customers to order a ride or courier service using their mobile phones.
National Chairman of the Association Kevin Mubadi said they have 800,000 members who are ready to join the app, which will work the same way taxi-hailing apps work, but with additional services. The association noted that they are looking forward to working with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to cover its members.
The Boda Boda safety association has also introduced a database that will have information of all the riders, and area of operation to make it easy for accountability.
“They have not been getting justice from the Police which has made them take the law into their hands. We are encouraging the members to report the cases of accidents so that the riders don’t have to take laws into their hands,” he said.
The association has also called on the government to provide additional lanes for motorbikes as they design the urban roads to reduce cases of accidents.
The group is now reaching out to restaurants and supermarkets to deliver cargo for their customers.
