CES is one of the largest conferences of it's kind, and is taking place from 9 January to 11 January 2018 and will showcase the latest developments in the tech space across a variety of categories.
The team at IT News Africa have scoured through the best of the gadgets unveiled at this year's conference and have identified the top 5 gadgets:
Samsung's The Wall 146-inch TV.
1) Samsung's The Wall 146-inch TV
“The Wall” is the world’s first consumer modular self-emitting MicroLED 146-inch TV.
According to Samsung, The Wall delivers high definition visuals without restrictions to size, resolution, or form. The TV has a module-based, bezel-less design, which allows consumers to customise their TV to the size and shape of their choice.
Despite revealing that it would ship this year, no price or exact date was revealed by Samsung.
HTC Vive Pro
2) HTC Vive Pro
HTC unveiled the Vive Pro at CES 2018, which is essentially an updated PC-powered virtual reality headset that adds a higher-resolution display, integrated audio and an updated tracking system.
The headset features a 2880×1600 display, improving on the 2160×1200 display in previous headsets, that will power views for both eyes. It also has a 74 percent increase in pixel density over the regular Vive, now at 615ppi.
The company also showcased a number of unique functions which helps set the headset apart from others. The Vive Pro also has a wireless adaptor that will let users stream content wirelessly using Intel’s WiGig technology. This would make the headset truly untethered. It also has integrated headphones and dual mics.
HTC believes that the Vive Pro “takes premium VR to a new level,” but did not reveal any details on pricing or exact release date, only revealing that the headset will be coming sometime this quarter.
Garmin Forerunner 645 Music
3) Garmin Forerunner 645 Music
The all-new Garmin Forerunner 645 Music is the first time that Garmin is releasing a high-end fitness tracking focused watch. The watch will store up to 500 songs for playback over Bluetooth headphones. You can track your runs (or bike rides, or swims) and the detailed stats to match while listening to tunes you've saved either from your computer or from streaming services.
The watch will also have a more stylish look as it features a steel bezel. You'll also get Garmin Pay (to buy that post-workout drink), an always-on colour display and support for a Running Dynamics Pod that tracks stats like cadence and stride length.
The battery life of the watch differs with different uses, if you use it in regular smartwatch mode it will last up to a week, but that shrinks dramatically to 5 hours if you use GPS and music.
The 645 Music is available for $450, and there's a music-free 645 available for $400.
SanDisk 1Tb USB-C stick
4) SanDisk 1Tb USB-C stick
This year at CES, SanDisk revealed the latest development in the ever-shrinking size of data storage with a one-terabyte USB-C dongle for your next laptop, tablet or Android phone. They did not, however, reveal when it will appear in stores and how much it will cost.
Sony LSPX-A1 ultra-short-throw projector
5) Sony LSPX-A1 ultra-short-throw projector
The new Sony LSPX-A1 ultra-short-throw projector integrates a projector into your living room like never before as it features a stylish credenza, an artificial marble top and half-mirror aluminium frame and wooden shelf. The aesthetic value of the projector may add some style to your living room but it is essentially a 4K projector that can create a 120-inch image with 4K resolution.
In addition, Sony has also integrated organic glass speakers, a subwoofer and three midrange speakers. The Sony LSPX-A1 will go on sale in the US Spring for $30,000.
