Twitter reacts: Cyril Ramaphosa elected President of the ANC.
Monday 18 December 2017 was a decisive day in South African history as, after a 3-day electoral conference, Cyril Ramaphosa was elected as the new president of the African National Congress (ANC) beating off competition from Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
The ANC, which has been the ruling party in South Africa since the first democratic elections in 1994, are the favourites to retain power in the next general elections in 2018, meaning that Cyril Ramphosa stands in the pound seat to become the next South African president.
Many South Africans took to Twitter to express their views on the decision taken by ANC delegates to elect Ramaphosa as the new President of the ANC.
Below are some of the best reactions:

In general politics is about the lesser of two evils. Only time will tell if #CyrilRamaphosa is the lesser of two evils. The role of civil society is vital going forward to ensure that the change we see is not just in leadership but on the ground for the most marginalized! #ANC54
