While originally released in 2011, Rockstar and Team Bondi's L.A Noire has officially been remastered for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, HTC Vive, and the Nintendo Switch. While the story and gameplay remain the same, Rockstar and Team Bondi have improved various gameplay and visual elements in this title.
For those who have not played L.A. Noire, here is a brief overview of the story. L.A. Noire is a dark, detective thriller set amongst the glitz, glamour and corruption of 1940’s Los Angeles. It’s the story of Cole Phelps, who after a traumatic time in the Pacific Theater of World War II has joined the L.A.P.D. as an idealistic beat cop. As Phelps, players investigate an escalating series of cases inspired by real-world crimes. Each successfully solved case brings Phelps greater success, but also brings him closer to the dark criminal heart of post-war L.A.
While the story of the title has not changed at all, each version of the game has different key features:
L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files for HTC Vive delivers seven of the original engrossing, self-contained cases from L.A. Noire rebuilt specifically for virtual reality, blending breathtaking action with true detective work to deliver an unprecedented interactive experience.
L.A. Noire for the Nintendo Switch features the complete original game and all additional downloadable content, with specific enhancements including a Joy-Con mode with gyroscopic, gesture-based controls, HD rumble and new wide and over-the-shoulder camera angles, plus contextual touchscreen controls for portable detective work.
L.A. Noire for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One delivers the complete original game and all additional downloadable content with a range of technical enhancements for greater visual fidelity and authenticity, including enhanced lighting and clouds, new cinematic camera angles, high-resolution textures and more. The game plays natively in 1080p for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, and 4K for PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X, these versions capture the grit and grime of the City of Angels like never before.
When taking a closer look at L.A. Noire on the PlayStation 4 Pro we found that the game ran rather smoothly. Some of the new additions to the game include the likes of updated weather, smog and lighting effects for a more
realistic Los Angeles. In addition to this, we also found that the vehicles in-game now featured real-time reflections.
Adding to the new additions, players will also find that there are new collectable hidden Novels and Records scattered throughout the world. Players can now also complete new objectives to unlock four new Outfits, each with unique special abilities.
Changes have been made to the interrogation options too and have been modified from the original ‘Truth,’ ‘Doubt’ and ‘Lie’ to ‘Good Cop,’ ‘Bad Cop’ and ‘Accuse.’ This, according to the developer, better reflects Phelps’ behaviour when a player selects each choice.
Conclusion:
Let's face it, L.A. Noire is an absolute classic. Not only does it feature a hard-hitting storyline, but it now features a multitude of visual upgrades that now compliment said storyline. If you are looking to venture back into the world of L.A. Noire, or are new to this title, now is the perfect time to pick it up.
