Vodacom rebrands to become a digital company
Vodacom announced on Thursday 5 October 2017 that the company is rebranding and becoming a digital company, expanding from their traditional telco model. The repositioning of its brand is in line with Vodacom’s parent company, Vodafone, global shift. Read More.
Six Safaricom staff members to be investigated for possible election fraud
Six employees of Kenyan telecom operator Safaricom will be investigated for allegedly conspiring with election board officials to rig the 08 August 2017 presidential elections. This comes after the chief prosecutor ordered an investigation which is to be completed in 21 days. A letter drafted by the public prosecutions Director, Keriako Tobiko has revealed that a team of senior prosecutors will assist in investigating six staff members. Read More.
Nigeria: Ernest Akinlola named new ntel MD/CEO
Telecoms company, ntel, Nigeria’s first 4G/LTE-advanced network, announced on Wednesday 4 October that the company has appointed Ernest Akinlola as the substantive managing director/chief executive officer of the company. Read More.
Jumia launches Nigeria’s first e-commerce bot
Nigerian online travel agency and e-commerce site, Jumia, have revealed that they have introduced the Jumia Bot, Nigeria’s first e-commerce Bot. Using Jumia Bot, shoppers can order food, find fashion or electronic items and book hotels and flights by simply having an online conversation with the bot. Read More.
iWayAfrica Kenya acquires Callkey Networks
African ISP, iWayAfrica Kenya, has secured regulatory approval to acquire the terrestrial and VSAT customer base of Callkey Networks, a Nairobi-based corporate communications service provider and a subsidiary of ImaraSat. Read More.
