South African startup, EmptyTrips, was named the winner of the Chivas Regal Venture Pitching Den that took place on the 8th of September 2017 at the Cape Town Stadium.
EmptyTrips, an online transport marketplace that matches transporters, agents and shippers in Africa, battled it out with 25 other finalists who were invited by the Innovation Summit in partnership with the SABC and Chivas Regal SA to pitch their startup ideas.
As the winners of the South African leg, Benji Coetzee, founder and CEO of EmptyTrips, will be heading off to compete for US$1 million Investment prize at the 2018 Startup World Cup grand finale in Silicon Valley in May 2018.
Speaking at the event, Benji highlighted that she has always believed in innovation and she is certain that the EmptyTrips platform is the solution that Africa has been waiting for.
“For us, this means more than just an opportunity to go to Silicon Valley, to us this shows that we are on the right track and that the right people are taking notice. I am grateful to have a supportive team who always bend backwards to make magic happen,” she concluded.
