Huawei becomes worlds second largest smartphone brand surpassing Apple

Huawei becomes worlds second largest smartphone brand surpassing Apple.

Counterpoint Research revealed on Thursday 7 September 2017 that Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Huawei, has overtaken Apple as the world's second largest smartphone maker by sales. Apples's iPhone now sits in third place with Samsung sitting at the top of the pile, according to a report by the Telegraph.

Counterpoint has highlighted Huawei's focus and consistent investment in R&D (research and development) and manufacturing, combined with an aggressive and creative marketing strategy as some of the reasons behind the shift, according to a report by Verge.

Although this rise may be a temporary one for Huawei, as Apple is scheduled to release a new range of products in September 2017, it does point to the huge growth the company has made over the past few years as they have gone from a relatively unknown brand, outside of China, to a household name in smartphone circles.

“This is a significant milestone for Huawei, the largest Chinese smartphone brand with a growing global presence,” Counterpoint’s Peter Richardson said.

“While this streak could be temporary considering the annual iPhone refresh is just around the corner, it nevertheless underscores the rate at which Huawei has been growing.”

Although Apple’s growth has slowed down in recent years, with iPhone sales slipping in 2016 and only growing marginally this year, the company shares have still traded at all-time highs in recent days with the company’s market value sitting at around $830bn (£635bn).

Now we all sit and wait for the 12th of September 2017 where Apple will unveil its latest overhauled device, which is expected to launch the company back to second place or even displace Samsung at the top of the list.
